WHEN you can't find the right words to say exactly what you mean…. you probably need a professional copywriter

Words are everywhere – fighting for our attention. They have just a few seconds to grab our attention and persuade us to read on. Words have to work hard to ensure we get the message and take action. Finding the right words to sell a new product, promote a cause or tell a good story is not easy. Many web companies cite example after example of projects that sit on hold because the client can’t get the content and text ready.

Writing good copy is a skill that should be carried out by a professional with experience. Not only will you get your text written on time, you will get an objective point of view and words that really communicate your message to the right audience.

If you want to tackle your own copy, here are a few things to consider;
  • Write from the customer's point of view. Speak in their language, not yours.
  • Write attention grabbing headlines that offer a unique selling point (USP) – but don’t try to be clever with word play or cryptic messages – no-one wants to work that hard.
  • Use word economy – cut back every sentence to the bone – take out every redundant word.
  • Check your grammar – especially apostrophes, commas and tenses
  • Get to the point of your message early in your writing. People rarely read beyond the first paragraph.
  • Use short, punchy sentences and avoid long words if a short one will do.
  • Write about benefits – not features.
