AWARD-winning interior architect company Fidget UK, has brought London and big city interior design to the Lake District with the recent launch a new café wine bar in Ambleside, and a restaurant in Kendal.

Ambleside in Cumbria is well known by walkers, climbers and holidaymakers and has many traditional pubs and restaurants. There was however, a need for a ‘funky & trendy’ bar/café. Fidget was appointed to create something vibrant and contemporary with a Mediterranean feel for the Lake Road Café Wine Bar. Fidget created a mix of strong colour contrasts, cutting edge contemporary and local, natural materials warmed by Mediterranean colouring. The result is a lively bar that’s busy throughout the day and is full every weekend.

“Fidget took my vision and made it a reality. I knew what I wanted to achieve, but I needed to work with designers that could really see and feel the kind of atmosphere I wanted to create. The bar is a great success thanks for the most part, to the interior created by Fidget,” said Alan Moorhead of the Lake Road Café Wine Bar.

Located in a traditional main street in Kendal, The New Moon is the most contemporary restaurant in South Lakeland. Fidget were asked to come with a design concept that would be exciting and different for local residents wishing to dine-out, but at the same time meet the expectations of visitors and tourists from large cities such as London, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Fidget’s design concept included re-planned circulation to allow for easier movement and access to the first floor. The centrepiece of the ground floor is a sculptural glass and timber staircase with low-level stair lights.

On the first floor, the double height pitched roof is set off by a stunning chandelier to create drama. There is also an open fireplace which provides a warm glow to the room. Tina Dulson, proprietor of The New Moon saidd, “Kendal was crying out for a restaurant with a contemporary look and feel. We are delighted with the end result and all our customers have made positive comments about the interior.”
